We’re looking for a Recovery and Collections Legal Specialist to join our Operations team in the UAE. You’ll take charge of recovery efforts when accounts move beyond early arrears and require formal legal escalation. The ideal candidate is process-driven, detail-oriented, and confident working within the UAE legal system to manage filings, negotiate settlements, and follow through on court proceedings.

This is a hands-on role that sits at the intersection of legal ops and collections strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with legal advisors, our internal risk team, and external authorities to ensure we recover debts ethically, efficiently, and in line with UAE law.

While being a licensed lawyer is not required, we are specifically looking for someone who has hands-on legal experience in filing and managing recovery cases in the UAE.

As a Recovery and Collections Legal Specialist, you will:

• Lead the legal escalation of delinquent accounts, including preparing and filing cases with UAE courts

• Draft and manage legal notices, court submissions, and documentation in both English and (ideally) Arabic

• Track ongoing litigation and recovery cases, ensuring timely and effective follow-ups with courts, lawyers, and enforcement officers

• Represent Nomod in court proceedings where appropriate, or support our legal counsel in doing so

• Liaise with legal authorities, law enforcement, and external legal counsel as needed to move recovery actions forward

• Negotiate settlements directly with debtors and their representatives, working to secure repayment while preserving relationships where possible

• Investigate debtor profiles through skip tracing and financial background checks to support legal filings

• Maintain detailed internal records of all collection efforts, legal actions, and correspondence

• Ensure all recovery activities are in full compliance with UAE legal frameworks and Nomod’s internal policies

• Proactively suggest improvements to our legal recovery workflows and case management practices

• Work with our Risk and Operations teams to shape our broader collections and recovery strategy

What we’d like

We think a Recovery and Collections Legal Specialist should:

• Have hands-on experience managing debt recovery in the UAE — identifying overdue accounts, contacting individuals or businesses, and negotiating repayment plans

• Be well-versed in UAE court procedures and legal filings, including preparing, submitting, and tracking recovery-related court cases

• Be comfortable liaising with legal authorities, including lawyers, judicial departments, enforcement offices, and relevant government entities

• Be able to attend court hearings or legal proceedings when required to support and move forward recovery cases

• Be confident in professional negotiations and settlements, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations and secure repayment outcomes

• Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of all recovery efforts, case activity, legal actions, and follow-ups

• Ensure strict compliance with all applicable UAE laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and ethical standards

• Have experience with skip tracing and investigation techniques to locate debtors and assess their financial situation

• Possess excellent communication skills — both written and verbal — in English, and ideally Arabic as well

• Be highly organised and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple active cases simultaneously

• Be persistent, pragmatic, and able to make sound, sometimes difficult decisions with limited information

• Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment, with a bias toward action and problem-solving

Nice to haves

• Prior experience at a high-growth startup or established fintech firm

• Direct recovery and legal collections experience with a UAE-based firm or clientele

• Multilingual abilities — especially in Arabic, Hindi, or Urdu

• Experience working with a remote, global, multicultural team
